Partnerships
TRI is involved
in a number of transportation initiatives and organizations that promote
the importance of transportation in economic development and quality of
life. Some of the more significant partnerships include:
- INRETS is the France National Institute
for Transportation and Safety Research under the France Ministries of Transportation
and Research. INRETS has established formal contracts with two U.S. universities:
one on the West Coast (U.C. Berkeley), and one on the East Coast (Polytechnic
University). At Polytechnic University, TRI and INRETS have established
a collaborative research program, through the Urban ITS Center, in the
area of economic evaluation of transportation investments and the analysis
of the costs and benefits of ITS applications.
- The Council of University Transportation
Centers (CUTC): a national organization which tracks legislation, invites
research agency speakers to its semi-annual gatherings, and in other ways
stays aware of legislative and programmatic directions.
- New York State Department of Transportation
(NYSDOT) Transportation Infrastructure Research Consortium (TIRC): a major
partnering relationship among ten universities and associated research
institutions. The consortium will conduct research, technology transfer,
and short-term consultation services on an as-needed basis on topics to
be identified by NYSDOT. The work includes basic and applied research in
engineering, operations, public transportation, management and finance,
and human resources.
- The University Transportation Research
Consortium (UTRC): a federally funded activity comprised of twelve universities
in Federal Region II, one of which is Polytechnic. It has its own proposal
process for funds awarded to it under USDOT's "University Center"
Program.
- Institute of Public Administration
(IPA): an ongoing collaboration in a cooperative transportation study of
four cities: London, Paris, New York, and Tokyo.
- NYU/Polytechnic/IPA Center for
Transportation Policy and Management. TRI collaborates with the Center
for Transportation Policy and Management on a variety of research projects
including ITS technology exchange and ITS policy planning.
Through its Urban
ITS Center, TRI is also a member of
ITS America, ITS New York, and The Committee
for a Smart New Jersey. These organizations promote the use of advanced
technology in the solutions of transportation problems.
